A team taught Humanities class, A.S.K. (Alternative Search for Knowledge) was developed more than 35 years ago for students that possess average to excellent ability in grades 10-12. Students earn two credits per year—English (Modern World Literature, Contemporary Writing, Literature and Society) and Social Studies (Contemporary Social Problems, American Themes, Society/Family/Community). These classes fulfill standard English requirements and American government for Social Studies. Students meet for two periods of English and Social Studies. The classes focus on themes and issues in contemporary world society. Whether combined or taught separately, the classes require reading, writing, thinking and discussing important topics. In addition students are required to complete a year long, independent reading project consisting of authors and texts of their own choosing."
