ESOL

ESOL classes support English Language Learners in our schools. ELLs speak another language besides English in their homes. Our program's goal is to develop the language skills that are necessary for students to achieve academic success in the mainstream classroom and to support content instruction.

The ESOL curriculum is designed to develop language skills such as vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading and writing through thematic units that are aligned with Common Core Standards. Sheltered science and social studies classes are designed and taught to strengthen ELLs’ reading and writing skills through High School content courses. Students are scheduled based on English proficiency level to assure that each student receives the support he/she needs.
