Fund for the Common Good - How it works

The Fund for the Common Good (FCG) Review Committee, selected by Hall’s Principal, manages the educational grants process. The Committee includes upper class students as well as members of the faculty and administration.

Proposals will be accepted between October 2023 and April 30, 2024 and must address what students hope to accomplish with their project; the reasons why it supports the common good; how they will accomplish its goal; time frame; and any costs entailed. The Fund will support a single project or will be divided among several projects.

Some restrictions apply; the Fund will not support:

Purposes that explicitly or implicitly discriminate among people based on race, religion, ethnicity, gender, age, socio-economic status, abilities, or personal choices. Activities directed at supporting defined populations with special needs, e.g., at-risk youth, the homeless, children, the elderly, people with disabilities, are exempted from this restriction providing they comply with the general non-discriminatory spirit of these guidelines;
Partisan politics of any kind;
Purposes that promote an advantage of any group over others;
Activities that are in any way contrary to existing law

Create a Budget

Each proposal must include the total amount of funding requested as well as a breakdown of how the funds will be spent. Examples of some typical costs are fees for materials and services; consultant or speaker fees; or costs for local transportation.

Project Report

Each group of students receiving a grant must write a brief report on the impact of their project, to be submitted to the FCG Review Committee. This includes a summary of the event or activity, including actual expenses. Reports will be filed in a public archive open for anyone who wishes to review past projects. Reports are due by April 30, 2024.
